 What is EoV?
 Ethernet
over VDSL (Very high bit rate Digital Subscriber Line) or EoV technology enables
the creation of high-speed links of up to 15Mbps full duplex, over standard
telephone cables. The Ethernet over VDSL product line delivers standard Ethernet
traffic over VDSL transport, which reaches distances of up to 1,200 meters
(4,000 feet), in parallel to the standard telephony (POTS) or ISDN service
carried on the same local-loop.

EoV is a two-band QAM (Quadrature
Amplitude Modulation)-based VDSL physical medium used as a transport for
Ethernet as the layer-2 protocol. The basic upload channel frequency is between
0.9 Mhz to 3.75 Mhz and the basic download channel frequency is between 3.75 Mhz
and 8.0 Mhz. EoV transmits in the basic "power spectrum density" (PSD) of -60
dBm/Hz. The Ethernet carrier uses standard Ethernet frames, and supports the
full range of Ethernet features supported in the OptiSwitchT such as Ethernet
switching, Spanning Tree and Virtual LANs (VLAN).

 Who Uses EoV?
 Carriers
looking to deploy high-speed broadband services have benefited tremendously from
EoV technology.   EoV technology provides the simplicity and
cost-effectiveness of Ethernet at the back-end network, with inexpensive
Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).  The most common deployments of EoV are
in Multiple Tenant and Multiple Dwelling Units (MTU/MDU), where the existing
copper wiring can simply be used to provide direct Ethernet service.  EoV
is also widely used in the hospitality industry, to provide business travelers
with Ethernet connectivity directly in their hotel rooms without rewiring the
hotel.  Finally, EoV can be used as a Ethernet service solution, providing
high-speed data services to small businesses, and even directly to
residences.

 How is EoV
Deployed?
Ethernet-over-VDSL uses several components.  First, the
head-end, or Network Termination (NT) side is connected to an Ethernet network
using the OptiSwitchT product.  Modules are available for all standard
Ethernet protocols.  The OptiSwitch EoV NT modules provide the head-end
capability, and control the Line Termination (LT) side.  The LT, or
subscriber, side can either be another OptiSwitchT with LT modules, or can be an
Ethernet-over-VDSL modem, which provides a standard 10/100Mbps Ethernet port in
addition to the EoV LT port.

In the case that the wiring is also
delivering telephony or ISDN services at the same time, MRV provides a series of
splitters, which decouple the EoV technology from the POTS or ISDN
technology.  The EoV modem provided by MRV also has an RJ-11 connection for
a telephone.

A special model of the system delivers long-range VDSL
transmission, which can reach distances of up to 2.4 Km (8,000 feet), with 4
Mbps, full duplex traffic. This solution includes a special OptiSwitch module
and special Long range CPE that uses a higher PSD on an upload channel between
0.6 Mhz and 2.0 Mhz and a download channel between 2.3 Mhz and 4.8
Mhz.
