 Banks,
insurance providers, trading floors and electronic exchanges all require
extremely high-speed, robust networks to operate their businesses.  In the
financial industry, any lost time is directly measurable as lost revenue.
More and more, customers are relying on the on-line presence of their financial
institutions for day-to-day activity, whether searching for a local doctor or
requesting an on-line trade execution.  Big server farms store vast amounts
of data and process endless transactions, requiring backup sites for disaster
recovery that are connected in real-time to the main site.  As a result of
business expansion, as well as M&A activity, the network is constantly
stressed with new requirements.  All of these conditions, and many others,
require the network infrastructure to be flexible, reliable and
secure.

For campus networks, MRV provides a wide range of solutions with
the FiberDriverT line of
fiber-optic products.  Many buildings can be easily interconnected with
various protocols, including Ethernet and IP, SONET and ATM, and Storage
Protocols (FiberChannel, FICON and ESCON).  With Wave-Division
Multiplexing products, the bandwidth carried over the fiber-optic
infrastructure can be dramatically increased, by simply using several
wavelengths to carry Gigabit Ethernet or any other protocol between the
buildings.

 The OptiSwitchT family of
flexible, scalable Ethernet and IP switches and routers provides a solution for
that scales to hundreds of Gigabits of wire-speed IP routing.  Data from
offices can easily be aggregated into a core network that supports security and
Quality of Service.  MRV's unique Ethernet Circuit
technology provides a full security and bandwidth control solution from the edge
to the core of the network.  Users, both external and internal, cannot
access prohibited parts of the network.  Ethernet Circuit technology
delivers the utmost security and privacy for sensitive data.  With the
bandwidth control feature of the OptiSwitchT, scarce resources, such as Internet
connections and shared servers can be protected from congestion by reserving
bandwidth for high-priority applications.  This is a critical issue in the
fast moving world of electronic transactions.

 In many cases, financial
institutions operate on multi-building campuses, or in neighboring buildings as
a result of expansion or M&A.  Today, many of these facilities, even
though they are very close together, are inter-connected through a low-speed WAN
connection, using T1 or E1 technology, or are not connected at all.  It is
often difficult or impractical to install fiber-optic cabling from building to
building.  When this is the case, the MRV TereScopeT line of
Free-Space Optics (FSO) products provides a quick and easy solution for
delivering huge bandwidth quickly, at very attractive prices, between
buildings.  With only line-of-site as a requirement, FSO technology creates a
high-speed network interconnect (up to Gigabit Ethernet speeds), making two or
more facilities act as a single large network.  FSO technology is highly
secure, even though it is wireless - it is impossible to 'tap' in passively as
with other wireless transmission media.

 In an environment of rapid
change, with mergers and acquisitions happening all the time, interoperability
is also a key issue.  MRV equipment fully conforms to all relevant industry
standards, including IEEE 802.1, 802.3 and all IETF routing protocol standards
(such as RIP and OSPF).  Our products are also easy to deploy and
manage.  The MegaVision
WebT Network Management System provides a complete solution for managing all
MRV and other 3rd party products with a Web-based interface.

 In large
campuses, the network management process can be complicated and
cumbersome.  With MegaVision, together with the In-ReachT and LX Remote Presence Management
solutions, this task is centralized and simplified.  Remote Presence technology
allows the administrator to securely access any part of the network either
in-band (through the network itself) or out-of-band (through the telephony
network) for management purposes.  MRV's solution even includes the ability
to manage the power connections of remote servers, so that an administrator can
force a crashed server to power-cycle without ever leaving the office.
